Christmas Fun Checklist - Our 10 Epic Moments

Are you looking for ways to keep the family entertained this festive season? Then our ‘Christmas Fun Checklist’ will help you on your merry way!

As parents ourselves, we know all too well how excited the little ones can get. It can be a tad overwhelming trying to contain their ‘extra energy’ and ensure your household remains a haven of Jingle Bells and doesn’t escalate into Jingle Hell! (We’ve all been there!)

Now, we’re not saying you have to do all of these things so please don’t put that pressure on yourself, you’re only human after all. But having a road map is never a bad thing, and this checklist is just that, a road map guiding you to a fun-filled Christmas full of treasured #EpicMoments for you and your children.

Write a letter to Santa

This may sound like an obvious one, but time goes so fast this end of the year that it’s an easy one to forget! Here’s why it’s both fun for your child and useful for you too! Firstly, it’s a great way to get your children to practice their handwriting and spelling willingly! Littler ones could draw a picture instead and tell you what they’d like to write. Secondly, doing it together means you can help guide them away from any present request ‘no-no’s’ and suss out what they are hoping for making the Christmas present buying easier! Thirdly, you’ll be sharing the magic of Christmas with your child, and there’s no better way to get in the Christmas spirit!

Receive a Letter from Santa

What’s the easiest way to reinforce you’re child’s belief in Santa, add an extra dash of magic and ensure they are on their best behavior? It’s so simple, just wait until you see their eyes widen as you hand them their very own Personalised Letter From Santa (or Father Christmas if you prefer.) It includes a personalised Nice List certificate too! This is one moment you’re children will never forget! The arrival of Santa’s letter can also double as an opportunity to introduce your ‘Elf on the Shelf’ if you have one.

Arts and crafts

Home-made tree decorations are great fun and even better if they are made to last. We love making paper chains or handprint Santa’s as much as the next person, but they rarely last one Christmas as they’re so fragile. Instead, opting to decorate wooden tree decorations is a great way to ensure they last year after year and those treasured memories aren’t forgotten. You can choose to decorate with crayons, pencils, felt tips, or crack open the glue, paints, and glitter for some extra creative mess-making fun!

We may be biased but we love our set of 6 wooden 'Gonk' tree decorations. They’re cut to order by our in-house artisans with the designs etched on, so they are ready to hang just as they are, or perfect for a crafting project!

Family Movie Night

Break out the popcorn and enjoy the home cinema experience with your loved ones. It’s one of our favourite ways to get into the festive vibe. Here are our top 5 family-friendly festive movie picks:

  1. Home Alone

  2. Elf

  3. Miracle on 34th Street

  4. Arthur Christmas

  5. Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Story

Do you know what else goes well with popcorn and a movie on a cold winter’s night? Hot Chocolate! Our hot chocolate gift set includes a personalised ‘festive friends’ mug, hot chocolate Santa cone, candy cane, and chocolate coins. It’s a fab gift idea for the big day, or works as an extra special treat in the run-up!

Sharing a Christmas Story

Do you have fond memories of being read to as a child? It's a great bonding experience, especially when the story captures their imagination. Given that Christmas itself fuels the imaginations of children across the globe, you can be sure to find a Christmas-themed story you can enjoy together! Our all-time traditional favourite is the‘The Night Before Christmas’ but we’re also a big fan of ‘The Dinosaur That Pooped Christmas’ guaranteed to bring about some giggles. Then for slightly older children (as it’s a little traumatic at the start!) ‘The Christmasaurus’ is a fabulous read!

Write Christmas Cards

This is another great way to get your little ones to practice their handwriting, and they are normally excited to send out cards to their friends and eager to do this! We always found it was best to write a few each night, rather than trying to do them all at once. Our ‘Spot the Difference’ Christmas cards are one of our best sellers, as they provide more fun than the average card and have been illustrated by a local Norfolk artist.

Get Baking!

Let’s face it, children do love to get messy and where baking is concerned there’s no better fun than licking the spoon and bowl after.

And it's always good to remember that the memories you make will last far longer than the mess! We asked our friend Imogen (owner of local business Sugar Buttons) for a super easy and festive cookie recipe, check it out below. It can help to have child-size baking tools at the ready as well and we have you covered with our personalised baking set.

Make a Gingerbread House!

It’s fun to build and decorate together. It can make for a beautiful table centerpiece and tastes amazing! (We can 100% vouch for Imogen’s culinary talents!)

Fun fact, our wonderful friend Imogen over at Sugar Buttons is a ‘Kirsty’s Handmade Christmas’ winner and has created a version of her winning Gingerbread Birdhouse ready for you to decorate at home. We’ve ordered ours already!

Christmas lights tour

Wrap up warm and head out for a winter walk once it’s started to get dark and see how many decorated houses you can spot together. You could even do a bit of research such as checking out community pages on Facebook to pinpoint those houses and streets that go ‘all out!’ with their festive decorations. Your children will love this magical light tour and better still, it’s free, fun, and helps to burn off some of the mince pies!

Christmas eve box

And finally, on the eve of Christmas, when the excitement levels are at an all-time high with the anticipation of Santa’s visit building by the second, we suggest you

break out their personalised Christmas Eve Box. Their named box will include a personalised Festive Friends mug, hot chocolate Santa cone, reindeer food, activity pack, coloured pencils, chocolate coins, and

a candy cane with additional options too, and plenty of room in the box to add any extras of your own! This will help to keep your little ones entertained, and hopefully a little sleepier after the warm cup of hot chocolate.

We hope this has given you some fun ideas for Christmas and will help you to make many, many #EpicMoments together!

Merry Christmas from the team at Epic Gifts and Crafts!
